Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers calm, compassionate support during your ketamine treatment. It’s designed to help you feel safe, grounded, and supported while allowing your experience to unfold in a way that feels right for you.
What Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a patient-centered, supportive service that takes place during a ketamine session. A trained clinician is present to provide reassurance, grounding, and emotional support as needed, always guided by your comfort level and goals.
This is not about directing your experience. It’s about creating a safe, supportive environment where insight, reflection, and healing can naturally emerge.
What to Expect During a KAP Session
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is most effective when coordinated with your primary therapist. Insights from your ketamine experience can be explored more deeply in ongoing therapy, helping translate those moments into meaningful, lasting growth.
- Patient-led experience - Your session is guided by your needs, preferences, and readiness. You remain in control throughout the process.
- Support during your ketamine treatment - A trained clinician is present during your session to offer calm reassurance and emotional support.
- Grounding when needed - If you feel unsettled or request support, your clinician can help you re-ground and feel more at ease.
- Reflection and integration - After your session, you may be offered journaling or written reflection tools to help process what came up during your experience.
- Exploring themes and insights - You’re encouraged to notice emotions, thoughts, or themes that arise, without pressure to analyze or explain them in the moment.
What Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Is Not
- Not a replacement for therapy - KAP is meant to complement, not replace, ongoing therapy or care with your mental health provider.
- Not structured talk therapy - This is not a traditional psychotherapy session and does not involve formal therapeutic techniques during the ketamine experience itself.
