SPRAVATO
Iowa Ketamine Clinic is pleased to offer SPRAVATO® (esketamine) to patients in the Des Moines metro area and across Iowa. SPRAVATO is the first nasal spray medication specifically for adults with treatment-resistant depression.
If you’ve tried two or more antidepressants* and are still struggling with depressive symptoms, SPRAVATO may offer relief. A referral from your physician to Iowa Ketamine Clinic is required before we can begin your SPRAVATO treatment. We can help to coordinate that referral, or you can request the referral directly from your physician.
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) CIII is a prescription nasal spray
SPRAVATO® is a prescription nasal spray that’s used along with an antidepressant (taken by mouth) to treat:
Adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions
Usually covered by insurance
Most insurance plans cover SPRAVATO when prescribed by a physician. Contact your insurance provider to confirm coverage.
Proven effective in clinical studies
SPRAVATO was studied in adults with treatment-resistant depression.
After four weeks, patients taking SPRAVATO and an oral antidepressant saw a greater reduction of depressive symptoms (compared to those who received a placebo and an oral antidepressant).
After 16 weeks of therapy, those patients who stayed on SPRAVATO, along with an oral antidepressant, did better than those who stopped therapy.
Administered by you under our medical supervision
After you and your healthcare provider decide SPRAVATO is right for you—and your provider submits the necessary referral forms to us—you’ll be ready to start treatment.
SPRAVATO is taken with an oral antidepressant.
You administer SPRAVATO nasal spray yourself at Iowa Ketamine Clinic—under the supervision of an Iowa Ketamine Clinic provider.
After you take SPRAVATO, an Iowa Ketamine Clinic provider will monitor you for at least two hours during the observation period for possible serious side effects, including feeling sleepy (sedation); feeling disconnected from yourself, your thoughts, feelings and things around you (dissociation); and increased blood pressure.
SPRAVATO is taken twice a week for the first four weeks.
After the first four weeks, SPRAVATO is taken once a week for a month.
After this, SPRAVATO is usually taken either once a week or once every two weeks.
